Quiet Weekend

We decided to have a low-key weekend. B had a rough week last week. Not so much at school, but when we got home. I think he was exhausted from his first week of school, so many emotions rolled up into one week. By Friday evening, he was crying about everything. So, it affirmed our change in plans to have a low-key weekend.

Saturday was rather un-eventful. B did go to a b'day party of a friend. After that, it was back home for more resting. I grilled some chicken on Saturday evening. It was the most peaceful time I have had in such a long while. I took my Parenting and Southern Living magazines out with me. I sat in a chair, reading the magazines while the chicken was cooking - it took a long time to cook. While sitting there, I noticed just how quiet it was in our neighborhood. Very quiet. Then I heard it....boom, boom, boom (that doesn't really describe it). Anyway, it was the AU marching band practicing on campus. I could hear the announcer and all...so, I started to think, fall is really just around the corner. I began to doze off in the chair and noticed I had chill bumps. Yes, you read that right, on a Saturday afternoon in August, I had chill bumps on me. The breeze blowing across our patio was actually cool. Again, I thought, fall is just around the corner. I watched leaves fall, acrobatic squirrels run along and down our fence. It was such a nice, peaceful time sitting there by myself. After dinner, there were more Olympics to be watched.

Sunday was as uneventful as the first part of the weekend. I even took a nap Sunday afternoon - a rare thing for me. I actually hate naps, and Mark will attest to the fact that I hate when others take naps too. I usually feel there are many other things to be done, rather than a nap. B had a friend over to play - not quite as uneventful as originally planned, but it went very well.

All in all, this was a very nice weekend. I am learning to not say yes to every invitation and to not plan every minute of our time with something to do. Now, just to figure out how Mark and I can do something fun sans kiddos. We haven't been out or done anything in a while now.

That first week of school exhaustion must have been going around! Peyt actually had a low grade fever by Sat night (reason for us being a no show yesterday morning). Nothing a little RNR didn't fix. Gotta love those relaxing-nothing special weekends though!!! I however did the exact opposite....am a cronic Sunday afternoon napper and I instead cleaned my house from top to bottom!
